چکیده

conclusions according to the findings of the current study, both open-loop and closed-loop neuromuscular control mechanisms altered in patients with cai. methods it was a case-control study. twenty-two subjects with unilateral cai and 22 healthy subjects stood on a force plate and initiated gait with maximal velocity under 2 conditions: i) planned (initiated gait after hearing the “all set” signal, when subjects felt ready to walk) and ii) unplanned (initiated gait “as soon as possible” after hearing acoustic signal). the cop parameters were assessed during the preparatory and the execution phase of gi. results the peak cop displacement toward swing leg decreased significantly, with p value = 0.003, in the preparatory phase of gi under planned and unplanned conditions in patients with cai (0.028 ± 0.002) in comparison with the control group (0.038 ± 0.002). forward velocity of the cop displacement increased in cai patients (0.026 ± 0.003) compared with the control group (0.018 ± 0.002) in the execution phase of gi, with p value = 0.039. background providing a clear picture of neuromuscular control mechanisms and deficits in patients with chronic ankle instability (cai) requires further investigation. gait initiation (gi) is a perfect task to evaluate concurrent open-loop (planned gi) and closed-loop (unplanned gi) neuromuscular control mechanisms in patients with cai. objectives the current study aimed at evaluating neuromuscular control mechanisms via assessment of the center of pressure (cop) displacements during planned and unplanned gi in patients with cai and healthy individuals.

Neuromuscular control during stepping down in continuous gait in individuals with and without ankle instability.

Ankle sprains are a common injury and those affected are at a risk of developing chronic ankle instability (CAI). Complications of an acute sprain include increased risk of re-injury and persistent disability; however, the exact link between ankle sprains and chronic instability has yet to be elucidated. The purpose of this study was to investigate neuromuscular control (including kinematics, k...

Effects of Balance Training on Postural Control in Athletes with Chronic Ankle Instability: A Systematic Review

Objective The Objective Ankle sprains are among the most common injuries in athletes. One of the limitations of people with chronic ankle instability is the lack of postural control. Balance and coordination training are among the most common interventions for people with chronic ankle instability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of balance training on postural co...

Effects of balance training on movement control, balance and performance in females with chronic ankle instability

Introduction: Although chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a condition characterized by numerous ankle sprains and the recurring sensation of ankle instability, which result in activity limitations and participation restrictions. Repetition based balance training protocols on type of the balance exercises may improve the deficits often associated with CAI. The objective of this study was to dete...

Gait termination control strategies are altered in chronic ankle instability subjects.

UNLABELLED Despite the high incidence of chronic ankle instability (CAI), the underlying neurophysiologic mechanism is unknown. Evidence suggests that both feed-forward and feedback mechanisms may play a role. However, no investigation has examined both control mechanisms during the same movement task in the same cohort of CAI patients. PURPOSE To determine the neuromuscular and biomechanical...

The Effect of Eversion Fatigue on Neuromuscular Control during Curb-walking in Individuals with and without Ankle Instability

INTRODUCTION Ankle injuries result in a significant amount of time lost from work and sport activity. The ankle is the most commonly injured joint in the body and 85% of those ankle injuries are lateral ankle sprains. 1 These injuries often result in residual disability with over 70% of those who suffered a lateral ankle injury reporting persistent symptoms 6 to 18 months postinjury, including ...

Individuals With Functional Ankle Instability, but not Copers, Have Increased Forefoot Inversion During Walking Gait

Altered gait kinematics in individuals with functional ankle instability (FAI) are thought to contribute to instability; however, research fi ndings are inconsistent. Findings may be clarifi ed with the use of a multisegment foot model and a coper group. Participants included 69 individuals: 23 with FAI, 23 controls, and 23 copers (individuals with a history of ankle sprain but no instability)....
